About

Helen is a UK artist currently based in Warwickshire. Originally self taught she developed her painting techniques assisted by workshops, tutorials, books, and most importantly, a lot of practice and obsessive observation, and has lately been studying for a degree in painting (never too late so they say). Helen originally developed her practice through a love for painting wildlife and finds immense pleasure in conveying life in the subjects she paints. Human figurative work is also proving to be very satisfying, along with landscapes and still life…..

Helen works in oils, acrylic, graphite pencil, charcoal, pastels, and often experiments with other mediums and enjoys unexpected results.

She appreciates and draws inspiration from artists past and present, working with realism or abstraction, who exploit the relationship between light and dark, and those who connect with and express exceptional qualities of spirit of subject in their work, whether focused on human, nature or inanimate objects. Helen draws personal inspiration from the qualities of nature and a desire to display unique characteristics in her work.

In the short time that Helen has been working as an artist she has taken part in local exhibitions and has twice (2018, 2019) been granted Visitor’s Choice Awards. Inspired to push her limits further Helen is now studying for a BA in painting with the Open College of Arts. During the pandemic in 2020 she took part in the Portraits for NHS heroes initiative and proudly had her painting “Grace” selected to appear in the book published by Bloomsbury Press.

Some paintings are available to purchase and commissions are welcome.

Helen is moved and grateful by all the positive response to her work and is eager and delighted to continue finding her place in the world of art.
